Hi Leo

Did reconfiguring NAV speed things up a bit? You did not say.

Although the manual does not indicate this, the 'Adagio Accounting' pamphlet that now ships with product states the following recommended system requirements:

- MS Windows 95/98/NT or 2000
- Pentium w/64Mb RAM
- 25Mb free hard disk space
- Laser or Inkjet printer

The free hard disk space may need to be revised now, as Adagio Inventory and Order Entry are now shipping, and take up 30 and 35 respectively for the program files, however, the system configuration above is accurate and Adagio does not bog down when run under this platform standalone. Personally, I have run Adagio on my home system which is only P166, 32Mb RAM, Win98 - Alt-Tabbing between Adagio modules with no problem or speed issues at all, however, we are speaking of a standalone system here.

It is hard to determine what an 'optimum' configuration should be these days, Leo. There are so many variables involved, especially on a Network. The more users on a network, the slower the access will be, depending on what functions are being run by each user. Ideally, (when running Windows-based accounting programs especially), the user should only be running these applications. With the advancement of Windows and multi-tasking environments there is the potential for all sorts of things going on at the same time, which not only slows down the local environment response, but affects how the network tasks respond as well.

Sometimes, pre-configured brandname server/network servers and/or stations {where the hardware technology (i.e. cards, memory & related components) is all specific to those systems (i.e. non-generic) and uses a combination of it's own resource management software to monitor/allocate or otherwise manage these components} can cause issues in regards to performance over a network. I have actually seen this to be the case in the past, when I was employed with a computer sales/service company. However, this was way before Adagio.

In any case, you certainly do not have to abandon your investment in time, training and money. We do have many network installs out there that are using Adagio successfully and productively on Novell and NT platforms.

Take care,
