Hi Rick,

The error '1013' is related to 'Permission denied'. This means that a function was attempted to be performed, and required a number of files to do this function. For some reason, one or more of those files were locked and unsharable, therefore the function could not happen.

If this problem is not due to a multi-user condition (ie someone else was editing the company profile at the time), then it's probably to a computer crash and not all files were shut down correctly. Reboot all machines as necessary.

Printing reports locks a certain resource called GLGLOB sharable. Accessing the Company Profile requires exclusive access to this resource. If printing a report crashes, this resource may not be released successfully, and no other station will be able to edit the Company Profile as the resource cannot be exclusively accessed. the only solution is to reboot the stations where the error occured.

If your system is running very slow, there are 2 things you can do:

1) Make sure that Norton Anti-Virus is disabled on both the workstation and the server. This AV software is known to significantly affect the performance of other software while running in Auto-Protect mode in the background.

2) Make a copy of your data and put it on your local machine. Print the Detail Listing report from this copy of the data, or perform another function such as editing the company profile. If the performance significantly improves, then perhaps the connection to the network is somehow related. Of course, performance will always be better locally than over a network, but if the difference is vast...

In addition to the above, always make sure that Opportunistic Locking is disabled on both the workstation and the server. This will wreak havoc with your data if OpLocks is enabled anywhere. Also, on Windows NT/2000/XP machines, users have the ability of creating 'user profiles' which means what works when one user is logged into a station may not necessarily work when a different user logs into the same station.

Regards,
