Dear Marleen
Once again, very little support (if any) can be provided by us for such old products...QCWIN 6.1B has been discontinued since 1999! If you continue to have problems, you should really contact your local ACCPAC Dealer or better yet - a Softrak Business Partner in your area.
Also - this version has not been tested for compatibility with the newer 32-bit Windows O/S's such as XP, ME and W2K!
Have you actually performed the install of QCWIN on this main office desktop? (and, by desktop - do you mean 'PC' or 'computer' - or do you mean you want to re-install QCWIN to the WINDOWS 'Desktop' of this system? For example, QCWIN has been installed onto this computer, but there is no Windows 'Desktop' icon showing for it.)
There are full installation instructions in the QCWIN manual that came with your software. If the system you are going to install it to has only one drive (C:\), then performing the standard install as outlined in the documentation should create the required directories on this drive, and install all files required to run the program on this PC.
If you have done the install, then you can try opening the sample data. On the main QCWIN sign on screen, select the following data directory: C:\QCWIN\Samdata. Enter .sam for the extension. The path for the Currency and EZTasks location is C:\Softrak\System (if prompted for this information). Can you open this successfully? If so, the problem could be in the files containing the path to this information - if you have copied the data from the working computer.
To check this out - using Windows Explorer, go to your data directory. Select the EZCURFIL.LD4 and EZCOMFIL.LD4 files and either rename the extension to say, .old, or remove the files completely from the data directory. When you start QCWIN again, it will prompt you to enter the path again - when prompted, enter C:\Softrak\System for BOTH the Currency and EZTasks paths (that is, IF the drive is actually C:\ - if not, enter the correct drive letter in place of "C").
NOTE: With newer 32-bit Windows O/S's - you may need to check to ensure that the User profile being used has FULL unrestricted (ADMIN or SUPERVISOR) rights to install software, as well as unrestricted access rights to any installed and newly created directories and all files within them.
If you still have a problem, check for the following directories on the main office desktop (PC?) that you have completed the install of QCWIN to:
C:\3RDPARTY\Working
C:\Softrak
C:\Softrak\QCWIN
C:\Softrak\System\EZTASKS.LD4
C:\Softrak\System\MCCODES.LD4
C:\Softrak\System\MCDEF.LD4
If any of the above is missing (the error seems to indicate that it cannot find the MC*.ld4 files), then you should really contact a Dealer for more assistance.
Regards,
