We posted an order twice and billed the customer twice. No error message came up during posting. Is that a new feature that allow posting an order more than once now? Please clarify. Thanks.

You can produce multiple invoices from an order. You may be able to add lines to an existing order (depends on profile setting). You can never have a duplicate invoice number or order number. Nothing has been changed in OrderEntry in this regard for many years.

We accidently posted an order twice (the branch sent us 2 copies of the same order)in a same batch and we produced 2 invoices to that order. In the past, if we enter a order number twice, even in the same batch, error message would popped up. In this case, no warning.

Just a glitch may be?

If your data passes the integrity check, then it is impossible to have two orders or invoices with the same document number in OrderEntry.

If you are saying that an order was entered twice from the same purchase order received from your customer, then this is possible but the orders will have different numbers (as will the invoices). You can check for this condition in OrderEntry by an option in the company profile (System Options - Check for duplicate reference).

Integrity check has no error in DataCare.

Oh. Two invoices from one order. That's OK (think partial shipments). If you check the order, you should find a line to support each invoice line.

The exact same sales order form was sent twice to the office, and was entered twice in error in the same invoicing batch. Normally, once a sales order is posted the first time, if someone tries to enter in another order using the same order number, an error message pops up preventing a duplicate entry. It didn't happen this time. It allowed us to post the exact same order (same line items, same order number, same customer) twice in full.

It was not a partial order or anything of the like.

Do you manually enter your order numbers or have the system automatically assign them?

We enter order numbers manually.

The image you attached earlier is from the Invoice grid, and it is possible to have multiple invoices associated with the same order. Though I notice that the Order Date is different for both of the invoices on this screen, it is possible to edit an existing order and change the date when posting the second invoice. To assist further, an image of the Order grid and the duplicated order records would help.

I cannot enter a duplicate order number in OE by typing an order number that already exists in either the Current or Historical list of orders. In either case, I correctly get an error that the order number is already on file. So if you indeed have 2 order numbers duplicated in the order list (and the integrity check is clean), then we'd need to know how you get orders into your system. Something funky and unexpected has occurred and know the precise steps is required. I presume they are not imported based on the discussion. Did different people enter the 2 orders?
