Hi James,

Depending on what you pick for your paper size choice in the Specification Options, this will determine what other options are available and used here, and which are read from the Windows printer driver.

If you pick 'Default' from the page size, that means that settings are read from the Printer driver, causing other choices you select in the Specification Options to be ignored. If you choose a specific page size (ie Letter 8.5x11) then you may find that the left margin setting has influence.

If you find that the Print Preview does not match what is actually printed on paper, this usually is related to printer driver settings.

Hi James,

That you got it working from one station indicates that you've got the correct settings on the specification to get what you want.

The settings on the printer drivers of the 2 workstations may not be identical, even though the same driver is in use. There may be one or more settings different between the 2 drivers that is affecting the print margins.

There has to be something different because it kinworks in one place but not another. Another thing to look at is whether a workstation has 'Large Fonts' enabled via the Windows display settings. This has been known to adversely affect printing specifications, such as checks. This is a Windows setting that can be set in 1 or 2 places, depending on the version of Windows.

Hi James,

Since Print Preview also displays the same margin problem, that indicates that the printer driver is causing the problem to me. Especially since it works on one station.

If you are using HP printer drivers, try using the PCL5e emulation driver if indeed you currently have the PCL6 driver in use. I have seen problems with the PCL6 HP drivers when printing Adagio forms, where everything works fine when the only thing changed is the printer driver to PCL5e.

It's difficult to offer what to do next as we're not set up to trouble-shoot printer setup. That it works from one machine indicates that you have done everything successfully in creating the cheque form.

Hi James,

Yes I would expect that the printed result would match the preview screen. This is because Previewing a cheque uses the same printer driver and all the same options.

If you are confident that the printer driver is not the cause of the differences in print-out alignment, then something else has to be different between the Win98 machine that can print cheques successfully and the machine(s) that have a margin problem. Identical machines with identical setups cannot have differing results. You will have to go into things such as how Windows is setup (ie screen resolution, large fonts, DPI settings, etc). You might also want to verify that the problem is repeatable on different cheque specifications, not just on this specific one.

This is starting to become something that is difficult to answer over a support forum. You will probably need someone to visit you on-site to investigate what is different between the workstations. The consultant who sold and installed Adagio Payables for you would be a good first choice on who to contact.

Hello James Bezeau,

Well, we haven't heard of this problem before, and are not likely to do a release to fix a problem that shows up only under Windows 98.

Now, if someone reports the problem under Windows XP, then we will look into what changes Windows is making in the regional settings that the Designer might be unhappy with.

(We have had an issue with Crystal Reports and South African Rands, but never one between Canadian and US settings, and not in the specification designer.)
