Hello JPBoudreau,

First, what virus checker are you using?

Second, have you verified that all network connections are running at 100MBits/Sec?

Hello JPBoudreau,

Firstly, don't worry about the "potential Multi-user directory problem" as being related to slowness. This means that you have access multiple databases and initialized with different path indicators. Maybe due to the new server having a different mapped drive letter?

Adagio is a multi-user; multi-file application where data files can be quite large and are read and updated over the network. Accounting programs like Adagio will require more network power than using a program like MS Word that only opens a single file (by a single user) that typically will be quite small. This is why Andrew asked about the 100MBits/Sec access.

If you want to identify how much the network environment affects data access in Adagio, try making a copy of your data and put it somewhere on a local hard drive (rather than the network) and use Adagio to open the local copy. If you see a very significant difference (you will always see some difference) then some investigation into the network will be necessary (especially since you reported that other applications are also slow). Note that having the programs on the network will not have anywhere near the performance affect as compared to data access on the network.

The current setup for the above is correct. The software should only be installed on one machine, in this case the server.

Also, I've noticed that disabling Norton anti-virus Realtime protection, does increase performance somewhat.

At a minimum Norton should not be checking the ..\Softrak directory tree nor should it be checking the data directories

How much of a speed improvement did you get by disabling Norton?

Hello JPBoudreau,

My guess is that there is a flaky network card or hub somewhere on the network and this is causing continuous network re-configurations (if everything is slow).

Buy a new 100MBit hub. Connect one machine at a time checking the performance as each is connected. Disable NAV entirely while you are doing this check. You should be bale to get network performance that is no worse than 1/2 the speed of Adagio running locally.

Have a look at these postings. "Slow" performance was corrected by the use of swithces instead of hubs and by tweeking the server settings.

This is a quote from one of the postings where a process went from 7 minutes to 35 seconds!

Network performance is critical, not just the 10 vs 100 cards, but also the hubs. It was taking over 7 minutes to recalculate a financial statement that took seconds in Plus. With the excellent support from Adagio, we ended up tracing the bottleneck to our 100mb hubs .. plugging the same workstations into a switch reduced the recalc time to 35 seconds. Not stellar, but certainly workable. Keep the switch vs hub issue in mind. Cheers!
