Hello kevin,

Do you need to dial "9" to get an outside line? You can set dialing prefix and postfix codes under the Fax | Fax setup choice.

To test out the fax settings, you can have the fax sent to your in-house fax number regardless of the number of the document you are trying to send. In the [Fax - SYS] section of \SOFTRAK\CRWIN\CRWIN.INI include the line

test=9999999999

and the modem will always dial that number. This allows you to check the layout of your fax specification and how it will appear on your customer's fax machine.

Also make sure that no other application is trying to use the fax modem - Adagio wants exclusive access and will not attempt if another process is using the modem.

Hello kevin,

\SOFTRAK\CRWIN\CRWIN.INI is on the drive in which Adagio is installed. You can edit it with Notepad.

Your fax program has probably "grabbed" the modem port. Close it down when you want to fax from Adagio.

Hello kevin,

Do you have a handset that would let you listen to the phone line? You should be able to heard the phone being taken off hook, getting the dial tone, the touch tone dialing, and the ringing at the other end.

In order to free up your modem port, you may have to completely exit your fax program.

Andrew,
No I don't have a handset its just a phone line ran into the computer with the modem. I am out of the faxing program thats why I think its weird. I hear the modem click like its making a connection but then in the faz queue it tells me that line was busy. Something that was suppose to be so simple is pulling my hair out

Hi kevin,

Get a splitter and cheap handset and listen in on the line, or find the modem initialization string that will turn on its speaker (if it has one). You might also try and discover the modem initialization string being wsent to the modem by your fax program and make sure that Adagio is sending the same string.

Andrew,
When ever there is a problem you always look above and beyond then what the problem can really be. The reason for a busy signal was the modem was configured for a 1 before the phone number then I configured Addagio for a prefix of 1. So it was dialing 11(areaCode)phone number So having 2 number ones as a prefix does not work. So all is solved but as normal thank you for your support.

Ok other questions now. If I am printing statements the whole batch no in the batch there could be customers that want them e-mailed, faxed or printed will the computer automatically send it to the right device to do it. Or do I have to set up different batches for different printing commands.

Kevin:

If you are sending Statements out through all 3 methods, you will process Statements 3 times. Process them once each for Print, Fax and E-mail (separate buttons on Statement selection screen).

If each customer is set up to use only 1 method (ie. there is a check mark on Print but not E-mail or Fax), this will work properly. Be aware that if a Customer has 2 options with check marks, they will receive their Statement twice. If the Customers are not set up correctly, you could work around this by using Report Group or another field to group all of the people together who will use the same delivery method.

Bruce,
Currently I print statements by short name can the computer determine on its one how to send Or do I have to separate each customer by catagory (e-mail, fax or print)

Hello kevin,

How would you have decided how each customer was to receive their statement? Customers who only have e-mail selected will only get a statement when they are e-mailed. Same for fax and print. Why not set the statements to Print only, Fax only or e-mail only depending on whether you have an e-mail, fax or only an address? The settings can be imported from Excel.

Kevin:

I think the part that is missing from this discussion is that YOU set up each Customer to receive their Statement in the way that fits them.

For instance, let's say you have the e-mail address for Able Cables. You edit their Customer profile and put a check-mark on the E-mail option but not on Print or Fax. Then you go to XYZ Company and, since you don't know neither their e-mail nor their fax number, you check the Print option but not the E-mail or Fax.

You do this for all of your Customers. As Andrew mentioned, if you have many customers, import the settings for efficiency.

Then when you run each of the Print, Fax and E-mail processes, only the Customers selected for that method will appear.

You will need AR version 8.0 for the e-mail feature to be available.

I understand all that. But what i am not understanding is after each customer is set up with the 1 method of receiving the statement. How do I generate statements? Normally i go to the statement screen print by short name and then print. What happens to the customers that are checked for email of fax. How do i send those?

Hello kevin,

To send your statements, select Reports | Print Statements/Letters. Fill in the dialog as you would for printing the statements. Instead of clicking Print, click the Fax or Email button depending on how you want the statements sent. Only the customers with the desired transmission method selected will have statements generated. You can view the resulting statements in the queue prior to sending them if you want.

And if you want to send statements by more than one method, you have to run the Print Statements function multiple times. Once for email, once for fax, and once for print to paper.
