Jane:

Adagio Job Costing is NOT file compatible with ACCPAC Job Costing. When it sees the ACCPAC JC files, it will convert them to the Adagio format, but then they are not longer readable by ACCPAC. (This cange was required to accomodate the longer phase and category numbers.)

Check the amount of memory in your computer. 256 mb is really the minimum for almost any large Windows program, and 512 mb or more is better. (By comparision, DOS programs like ACCPAC ran in less than one mb.)

Perhaps, Softrak Tech support can help more, but I expect they are off today for the Victoria Day holiday here in Canada.

I don't work for Softrak, so I may not be as tactful as they are, but I will try.

The slowness of the job status report is a known issue; I have reported it many times, and I know they are working on speeding it up in an upcoming release.

The process of recognizing revenue and expense may be slower; none of my clients have reported that. On the plus side, recognizing revenue and expense is now date sensitive, and there is now a period-end calendar where you can close periods. This is a huge improvement, and well worth the tradeoff in speed.

I think you might not have done adequate research before installing Adagio JC. Everywhere you look on Softrak's website and in the manual it states that Adagio JC breaks the Adagio standard of being database compatible with ACCPAC Plus. As part of the conversion, Adagio renames the ACCPAC JC files, lest you think they are still live. That is why you couldn't find the data. The main reason for the break in compatibility is the expansion of the Job-Phase-Category fields from 4-2-4 to 6-6-6. As a result, once you convert JC you can't use ACCPAC Plus AP, AR, or Quik Invoice either.

Hello harriss,

I'll just address the issue of speed in the report, as the other issues have already been accurately commented on.

We are aware of the speed issue - it takes longer for Crystal to read the entire file to identify the records you want to print than DOS took. Usually, this issue goes away when people archive their old jobs. This is a completely new feature available in Adagio JobCost. In ACCPAC Plus, when you deleted a job it was gone forever. In Adagio, you can archive and restore jobs to speed up your processing. Taking advantage of this new feature can help out here.

I agree that the speed issue has everything to do with the number of jobs maintained.

In the past you had to keep the closed jobs if you wanted to refer to them. Now you can archive them to save them without having them mixed with the open jobs. Working with the shorter list of open jobs is much faster and easier.

Make sure the system option in Company profile is set to retain jobs in archive. On the Maintenance menu, use Delete closed jobs. Deleting from the job list will move them to the archive list.

In Plus you had to produce the report to get information, but Adagio Job Cost has a fast, and comprehensive inquiry function. Often when you are looking for job information, the Inquiry function will provide what you need. Use it instead of the slower reports.
