The account range in the B/Sl statement may not be identical to the I/S, not only for the accounts but also the departments (if used) or the field code in the formula. Right-click on a number in your financial statement you believe to be wrong and choose Details. This will allow you to drill-down into the amount and perhaps see that an account is missing from what you wanted, or an account you don't want is within the range. Do this for both statements to compare.
If you have a financial statement with a range of 5000 to 5100 and add a new account within the range, there is nothing you have to do to make the formula read this new account. You may have to Collapse and Expand your SmartSheet in order to see the new row for 5096 on a detailed report, but that's it. Make sure that the financial statement is indeed set up the way you anticipate it to be. Also make sure the Department Toolbar and Zero Suppress button selections are not preventing your new account from being visible and selected.
