Hi JoAnn,

On looking in the Company Profile for Cashbook, I see that the Company Number field only has 6 characters. This seems to be different than the manual, which indicates a maximum of 11 characters. The screen-shot of the company profile in the manual also seems to suggest that the Company Number field should be bigger. I don't know when this had changed, but I assume that this is posing a problem for you.

Because the company number will be the same for every form, you could 'hard-code' the 11 character company ID into your 1099 specification, rather than using a code to print it.

For the Recipient (Vendor) ID, there is a 15 character code for a Vendor ID, but it is not clear what spec code is used to print this. Only codes %V1 to %V10 are listed for Misc. Vendors in Cashbook. Since %V11 prints the Vendor ID for checks, perhaps this is the same for 1099s?

Because Peresoft is the developer of Cashbook, they would be the ones to make any programming changes if needed. Could you let us know if there are any further problems? Thanks.

Hi JoAnn,

I was not able to print the Vendor ID field using the %V11 code either. According to the 6.5 Addendum, this is the code that was added to print the Vendor ID field, but it only states this is for checks. It's possible that it was not connected to be used with 1099 forms. I have contacted Peresoft (the developer of Cashbook) for more information.

I have also asked about the Company ID field in the profile. If you hard-code this info in the spec, why would you have to change it back? Will your Company ID change in the future?

Hi JoAnn,

I have some good news and some bad news, regarding your questions about the Company/Vendor ID numbers and printing 1099 forms.

The good news is that Peresoft is going to look into using the %V11 code for printing the Vendor IC field onto 1099s. They told me this was only set up for checks, and probably should be for 1099s as well.

The bad news is that they will be unable to change the Company ID field to anything more than 6 characters. Due to the way the information is stored in the data, there is no room for movement in increasing the width of this field. In those places where you have to print a Company ID large than 6 characters (checks and/or 1099 forms), you will have to hard-code the ID onto the specification. At least you don't have to worry about 'changing it back' to the code later on.
