I recently upgraded AP to 6.8B. When we first tried to run cheques we received a message stating "cheque specification file name exceeds 8 characters. Cannot proceed" ... or close to that. I had to rename my highly descriptive file name (the actual file name, not the description within the spec) to one with 8 characters including the AP$ prefix. Seems like a throwback to DOS naming conventions...... can this be fixed .... or is it a quirk on our systems .... things ran smoothly after that, but I would like to be not restricted by a 5 character name ... Thanks!!

I had exactly the same problem the first time I ran cheques after the upgrade. We don't have many cheque specifications so I guess it doesn't really matter, but it does seem like moving back to DOS.

Hi Kevin and BD,

This is not a quirk on your systems but a conscience decision we had to make. There were issues with check printing freezing on some versions of Windows. To maintain consistency, we had to 'go back' to the shorter names. I hope that this hasn't been too disruptive.

Remeber that the specification Title, not the file name, is what appears in the selection drop-down and this can be much more descriptive than 8 characters.
